Before we dive in, I want to take a moment to share why I chose this piece of scripture as my inspiration for the upcoming year.
Last January, when I chose "spiritual maturity" as my theme for the year, I admit that I didn't fully grasp its profound significance when put into practice. It wasn't until I faced various challenges and encountered opportunities for personal growth that my understanding of this concept deepened. While I knew it involved more than religious practices and required a strong connection with God, I wasn't prepared for how He would enrich my understanding and appreciation of Him in extraordinary ways.
It's truly remarkable how, when we seek God's infinite wisdom, He can reveal so much about us that we may never have known otherwise.
This past year, I was confronted with my tendency to be self-focused - with worries, preferences, doubts, and past hurts. It reminded me how much I truly need God and how many limitations I have.
In 2023, one of the most enlightening experiences for me was the realization of how much I still need to control things. Despite understanding the immense power of letting go and placing my trust in God's perfect timing and plan, I see that there is still so much room for growth.
So, this year I decided to set a measurable goal for myself. Instead of inadvertently focusing on what I don't want, I’m making a conscious effort to align my actions with what pleases God and His purpose for me. I’m hopeful that this shift will allow me to move away from being driven by my selfish concerns and concentrate on what truly matters.
And that’s how I landed on Galatians 5:22-23 which presents a beautiful list of virtues known as the "Fruit of the Spirit." It's like a roadmap for living a life that reflects the character of God.
Each virtue represents a different aspect of His nature that I want to cultivate within myself. It feels personal and introspective, like a gentle reminder of the kind of person I want to become.
I'm excited to see how this intentional focus on the Fruit of the Spirit will shape my year and help me become a better version of myself.
Okay, so let’s dive in!
